Spetses is one of the most famous islands of the Saronic Gulf, which attracts thousands of tourists from Greece and abroad. The natural beauties, the traditions and the significant history of the island, make Spetses one of the most popular travel destinations all year round.
Although it is a small island, it offered major help during the Greek War of Independence in 1821 against Ottomans. One of the most significant heroines was Laskarina Bouboulina. Since then and every 8th of September the locals celebrate the anniversary of this important battle, while thousands of people visit the island in order to attend this spectacular festival.
